{"id":133,"date":"2013-08-27T22:26:21","date_gmt":"2013-08-28T03:26:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bunnyville.org\/xblkx\/?p=133"},"modified":"2013-11-03T22:26:30","modified_gmt":"2013-11-04T03:26:30","slug":"nonsense-of-the-day-department","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/xblkx.lkramer.net\/?p=133","title":{"rendered":"Nonsense of the day department"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a 2011 article in <em>Discover<\/em>, scientists were discussing development of a technique to obsolete amniocentesis where PCR was applied to fetal DNA which is discovered to exist in the mother&#8217;s bloodstream.<\/p>\n<p>The article mentioned there was opposition to the technology&#8230; by &#8220;advocates for Down syndrome&#8221; &#8230; &#8220;and others who fear it will lead to more abortions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>WTF? There are advocates&#8230; in *favor of* Down syndrome? Thought I&#8217;d heard everything.<\/p>\n<p>I suppose these people are lobbying against treatment of childhood leukemia in girls because it might lead to more abortions.<\/p>\n<p>How about this idea&#8230; let the technology develop, and if you don&#8217;t want to buy or use it to get information, don&#8217;t. Thankfully, for the moment at least, a woman&#8217;s reproductive rights are (for the most part) still hers and don&#8217;t belong to those who want more Down syndrome in the world.<\/p>\n<p>I think my brain is melting.
